About Our Dog & Puppy Training Classes
SOABDC offers the following dog training classes in Scioto County (click the links provided for
more detailed information on those particular programs):
*
Beginner Obedience  (From informal to competition, the AKC Canine Good Citizen & therapy
dog certification preparation)
*
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy (for all puppies under 1 yr old) This class not only encourages
socialization with other puppies which is crucial for young dogs, but also covers potential problem
areas such as crate training, bite inhibition, 'leave it', curbing barking, & more. It's geared to help
encourage responsible puppy ownership as well as beginning training for your puppy
*
AKC Rally- The fun bridge between the CGC & formal AKC Obedience
*
Conformation (varying degrees depending on the requests made prior to scheduling
classes)-Goes through everything from turns, showing bite, & stacking to proper equipment &
properly dressing the part for a successful presentation to show your purebred dog.
Please note-all classes except for conformation is open to mixed breeds, too!

Our classes typically run 45 minutes in length and are planned for one session/week for 8 weeks.
We offer a set of spring training classes (starts usually mid April) , and a fall set of training classes
(typically starting in early September). We check the shot records at Orientation for
ALL class
participants. Our next training classes will be in Spring 2012.
Our training is held at the
Glendale Senior Center (old school) off of Lucasville Minford Road
on Glendale Road between Lucasville & Minford. We train outdoors around behind the school
building where we have a shelter house and lots of clean, well kept ground.
People who wish to take our training classes but don't want to join our club are welcomed to do so.
Our classes are
$45.00 for 8 weeks worth of weekly classes for non-SOABDC members, expected
paid at Orientation.
And remember, if you join our club, then all training offered is
FREE!

Our instructors are not only experienced in the field in which they instruct, but they are also very
friendly & helpful. Under most circumstances, our trainers have titled dogs in their area of
expertise, or have done extensive enough work to be quite knowledgeable to teach class. Unlike
most trainers in our area, our trainers do competition, title dogs and/or actively work with dogs in
the community. They use excellent dog-friendly methods that are yielding promising results!
Here are just some of our professional SOABDC Trainers & Their Credentials:
Greg Piguet: Teaches Rally Class; Has titled two female German Shepherd Dogs Gabby & Loper

SOABDC's Tail Waggin' Tutoring Program
SOABDC also works within our community by taking our registered therapy dogs, certified
through the
Therapy Dogs International, Inc. program into local libraries & schools. This program
helps younger children develop better reading skills by having an opportunity to sit down and
read to a therapy dog. Our well-trained therapy dog lies down on their blanket and 'listens',
helping children relax and focus more on the task at hand. The program is
extremely beneficial
in our community and is getting very positive reviews. Our handlers also provide little rewards
for children participating so they get even
more positive reinforcement for their efforts. Please
contact SOABDC if you are interested in having Therapy Dogs visit your business*.
Stacey Sammons of West Portsmouth & her big English Mastiff Little Bear are just one of our
impressive registered therapy dog teams here at SOABDC!
SOABDC is currently providing therapy dogs for Tail Waggin' Tutoring at the Portsmouth
Public Library on Saturdays 2-4pm and at the Lucasville Branch Fridays 3-5pm
*-The therapy dog work our members do is strictly VOLUNTARY-any requested visits done by
SOABDC & our therapy dog teams are FREE to the public & businesses!
No classes are currently
offered. Check back in
Spring for our training
schedule!
All of the therapy dog work that
our SOABDC members do with
their dogs in our community is
strictly on a
voluntary basis.
